Project: As an Artist-in-Residence with the city of Los Angeles, MacBean returns to her 2000 signature dance-theater work with a new perspective. Originally found by the LA Times to "abound with humor and wit" this series of short "ballets" engage issues of ownership and performance. Eight years after first conceiving the work, MacBean addresses the same ideas still wrought with fragmentation, liminality, and alienation. But, in these Ballets, MacBean proposes art itself - the fleeting beauty of movement - can save us from ourselves. The Ballets expose the mechanisms working within the system of dance and the politics of the body, this time around, without discounting the power of hope and whimsy. Featuring the virtuosic talent of Nicole Clarke with members of The Big Show Co. The Ballets examine the relationships between choreographer, performer, music, theater space, and audience. Choreography by Arianne MacBean Unknown Theater is 3 blocks East of Highland, 50 feet North of Santa Monica Boulevard. Free lot parking 1 block North of Unknown Theater on the South East corner of Seward Street and Lexington Avenue Made possible with funding from the city of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
